A basic website consists of a homepage, a
contact page, and an unlimited number of
sub-pages. Basic websites can be for personal,
business, or professional use. They may or may
not have extensive graphics.
There are a number of
features that a basic website design has. First,
a basic website is easy to read. The background
color and foreground colors must be chosen
carefully so enough contrast exists and people
can read the text. Also the size of the font
must be large enough.
Second, a basic website
should be easy to navigate. The navigation
system on the site should be clear. Viewers
should know where to click and where the link
leads. Linking standards should be used. Usually
links are blue or a unique color apart from the
text on the page and linked texts are often
underlined. Users should not get lost within
your website. So users should be able to get to
and from any page from any page.
Page layout and design
should be consistent across all pages in a
website. This is very important because you want
the website to have a certain look, not a number
of looks. This means if you have a certain
color/graphics scheme on your homepage, you
should carry out this same theme across all
pages on the site. Or if you have your links
located on the left side on one page, the next
page should be located in the same position on
the next page. You want people to realize that
they are still on the same site even after
clicking a link.
Lastly, your site should
load quickly. This becomes less of an issue as
more and more people have high speed and
accelerated web access. But you don't want your
viewers to wait a minute before being able to
see anything on your site.
